Lions Youth Group
The five entrants for Lions Youth of the Year were Catharine Hobson, Stephen Minon, Joanne Tansey, Vernon Hyden and Jane Weigall.
Telford South Molle Cup
This $20,000 horse race was held as part of the Brisbane races under the sponsorship of South Molle Island, which was represented by Telford managing director Noel C Smith and South Molle hostess Sybil Harrison.
Dingo Beach report
The AGM of the Progress Association reported on a busy year.
Drinking water and a toilet block was established on the esplanade.
Two rescue radios will keep the boating public in contact with land.
Forty-five allotments at Nellie Bay had been sold.
A telephone service was expected to be set up during the year.
One bridge and nine more gully crossings had been constructed on the Dingo Beach Rd.

Selwyn Hawken and Anne Muller had joined the teaching staff.
The new Year 1 enrolment was 25 students.
Visit of Bill Lamond
Bill is the son of Henry G Lamond, the famous author who took up South Molle in 1926.
Bill came to Proserpine last week as guest speaker at the Lions Club.
Rotary Club guest speaker
Proserpine's 1981 Nurse of the Year Janette McCall outlined her campaign to raise funds for the Queensland Cancer Fund.
She hoped to follow in the footsteps of last year's Nurse of the Year Sister Merle Telford who raised $9100 from a similar position.
First cricket of the year
On the showground turf Colts defeated Centrals, led by 68 from Jim Skaiffe.
The Colts' best bowlers were Neil Petersen and Dave Doolan.
Bob Shepherd top scored for Centrals with 38.
In the other game Stu Burns and Col Crothall led Railways to victory over Wanderers despite the efforts of Kevin Doolan.
