Abandoned, cyclone-damaged QLD pub for sale

A NORTH Queensland pub that was damaged by a cyclone almost four years ago has been listed for sale.

O'Duinns Irish Pub, which is located in Proserpine, was abandoned after Severe Tropical Cyclone Debbie, a category four storm, lashed the region in 2017, before continuing its path south along the Queensland coast.

Its listing ends a drawn-out battle for the pub's owners, who won a court battle to be reinstated in November last year.

In January, it was reported that the company that owned the pub - Dubs Pty Ltd - had previously been placed into liquidation, and the damaged building was handed to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.

But the company successfully applied to the Federal Court to be reinstated as the owners of the building, and were re-registered on November 4 last year.

Two days ago the company listed the pub for sale with PRDnationwide Whitsunday.

"A rare opportunity has come along to purchase a prime commercial site in the main street of Proserpine," the listing on realcommercial.com.au says.

"O'Duinns was a bustling Irish Pub prior to sustaining damage by TC Debbie in 2017."

Situated on a 1781 sqm block in the heart of Proserpine's town centre, it has dual access.

The building has restaurant, bar, TAB and gaming room facilities, while upstairs there are approximately 25 rooms that were previously used as backpacker accommodation during the fruit picking season.

At the rear of the property there is an 18-space carpark, according to the listing.

The site is zoned as a Major Centre under the Whitsunday Regional Council Planning Scheme, and expressions of interest close on March 10.

It is being sold as a vacant possession.
