Adele leads BRIT nominations with four nods

ADELE, James Bay and Years & Years are up for four awards each at the 2016 BRIT Awards.

Adele, 27, continues her incredibly successful musical comeback by receiving four nods - for British Female Solo Artist, British Single, MasterCard British Album of the Year and British Artist Video of the Year.

She is also in the running for the BRITs Global Success Award, with the winner of the prize determined by international sales.

'Hold Back the River' singer James Bay also received four nominations - for Best British Male Solo Artist, British Breakthrough Act, British Single and MasterCard British Album of the Year.

Relative newcomers Years & Years, who were runners up for the 2015 Critics' Choice award at last year's ceremony, were left stunned after also receiving four nominations.

They are up for British Group, British Breakthrough, British Single and British Artist Video of the Year.

Lead singer Olly Alexander laughed: "Just the 4! I don't believe it, it's crazy!"

Calvin Harris and Jess Glynne are both up for three awards at the ceremony.

Speaking about the honour at the announcement of the nominations The BRITs Are Coming, Jess said: "It's very surreal, it's a show that I've watched for as long as I can remember and now I'm nominated. It's amazing!"

One Direction, Ellie Goulding, Little Mix, Mark Ronson, Florence + the Machine, Ed Sheeran and Jamie xx are all up for two awards at the ceremony, which takes place at London's O2 Arena on February 24.

Meanwhile, Coldplay could make BRITs history by becoming the most successful artist to win the British Group and the MasterCard British Album of the Year awards.

They are currently tied with the Arctic Monkeys with three wins each in both categories.
