Record number of entries to construction awards

QUEENSLAND builders have submitted a record number of entries into the Master Builders Housing & Construction Awards, showing a welcome increase in industry confidence.

Master Builders executive director Graham Cuthbert said the number of entries had gone up almost 15 per cent on 2012.

"It is a positive sign for the industry to have so many quality entrants vying for Queensland's most prestigious building accolades," Mr Cuthbert said.

"We've seen a good cross-section of entries in the housing categories, with all dollar values represented.

"There has also been a great scope and variety of entries in the commercial section.

"Judges are currently travelling across the state to scrutinise the entries based on criteria such as quality of workmanship, degree of construction difficulty, external appeal, siting and aspect, and amenities and aesthetics."

Mr Cuthbert said it was a tribute to the Housing & Construction Awards that, after 26 years, they continued to be sought after by the state's top builders.

"It's fair to say that the Housing & Construction Awards have become one of Queensland's most prestigious industry events since beginning in 1987," he said.

"They give winners recognition of being at the forefront of building innovation and quality craftsmanship, as well as allowing Master Builders to engage with the industry."

The winners will be announced at gala dinners across the state in July and August, with state winners announced on October 4 in Brisbane City Hall.
