Brad ‘bonged himself into oblivion’
Brad Pitt has admitted that he spent a year and a half in Alcoholics Anonymous after Angelina Jolie filed for divorce.
Speaking to the New York Times, the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actor explained: "I had taken things as far as I could take it, so I removed my drinking privileges," The Sun reports.
"You had all these men sitting around being open and honest in a way I have never heard.
"It was this safe space where there was little judgment, and therefore little judgment of yourself."
The Fight Club star, 55, added: "It was actually really freeing just to expose the ugly sides of yourself."
Pitt also revealed he'd turned to marijuana in the past, explaining that during the 1990s when he was at the peak of his fame, the pressure led him to excessively use the substance: "In the '90s, all that attention really threw me.
"I really became a bit of a hermit and just bonged myself into oblivion."
Pitt and Jolie shocked the world when they announced their plans to divorce in September 2016.
Jolie and Pitt, who had been Hollywood royalty, filed for divorce following an incident on a plane when Pitt allegedly clashed with son Maddox, 18.
The Hollywood couple then released a joint statement where they stated they'd agreed to settle their divorce in private.
Pitt and Jolie married in 2014 after 12 years together and share children Maddox, Pax and Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 11.
Pitt was previously married to Friends actress Jennifer Aniston from 2000 to 2005.
