Call for bounty on growing, looming wild dogs

THERE are calls for councils to introduce a bounty for wild dog scalps after a trapper caught 268 in Central Queensland since December.

Trapper Gordon Gee - who is in Rockhampton at the moment - said the dogs were big, dangerous and coming closer to town.

He said it would not be unusual to find more than three animals within a 1km radius.

The wild dogs are known to attack wildlife as well as farming stock.

"If we had a bounty it would encourage people to get out and trap them," he said.

"It would eventually control the problem... the more people get involved, the better it will be."
