Conway fun day to light up park
CARS at Conway will return for its eighth year this weekend as families converge on Conway Beach Tourist Park for a day of fun, esky racing and of course plenty of cars.
The family fun day will feature an entire day of entertainment with organiser George Pauly saying the event gave back to the local community.
"The best part about the whole thing is we're raising money for the community and for charity,” he said.
"Last year we gave a large amount of money to the Proserpine Hospital.
"Of course, we can't do it without the owners of the cars.”
Starting eight years ago, the show spawned from a weekend away with a Mackay car club and it hasn't looked back since.
"It's developed into a full blown car show,” Mr Pauly said.
"It's a variety of cars from vintage cars, vintage bikes hot rods to show cars including mustangs, corvettes, all sorts.
"It's about bringing your special vehicle for other people to look at and enjoy. It's a weekend away for car owners to have a good time and it's all for a good cause.”
The day will include a barbecue, takeaway food, bar, and fun for the family with train rides, a jumping pillow, swimming pool, a water slide and their main event - the motorised esky race.
"It was a real hit last year. We have a course set up in the park and they compete for a big trophy,” Mr Pauly said. "Entrants buy them online and there's a few modified ones. It's quite good, and funny.”
Mr Pauly said car entries had been very good this year and that the day would have something for everyone.
Cars can still enter the show, including on the day, for $20 per car. For more information contact George Pauly on 49473147.
