Cowboys cut down Knights
THE North Queensland Cowboys are back in the saddle after a free-wheeling 28-2 NRL win over the Newcastle Knights in Townsville last night.
Staring down the barrel of a fourth-successive loss, the Cowboys produced some of their most enterprising 2014 form to punch plenty of holes in the Knights' defensive armour.
With the NQ pack on a mid-field roll, creative halfback Robert Lui orchestrated two of three quick tries in the space of 10 minutes as the home side established a comfortable 16-2 halftime buffer.
Lively Cowboys fullback Michael Morgan continued his great start to the season with his second try of the night, a 48th minute grubber-and-chase effort which snuffed out any hint of a Newcastle comeback at 22-6.
Rake Ray Thompson then joined the NQ party, stepping on the accelerator to skip away from dummy half through lethargic Knights' defence.
NQ Cowboys 28 (Michael Morgan 2, Matthew Wright, Brent Tate, Ray Thompson tries; Johnathan Thurston 4 goals) def Newcastle Knights 2 (Tyrone Roberts goal).
