Croc spotted close to tourist beach

WALKING along the beach at Funnel Bay with her dog, the last thing Deborah Wickham was expecting to see was a crocodile wading through the water.

"I didn't know what it was at first because I could only see the motion of it," she said.

On November 29, Ms Wickham decided to go for a walk at the quiet beach.

"We were walking up the beach and we got to the end and walked across the grass to where the road track bit is," she said.

"I was picking grass beads off my dog and thought we won't walk on the grass again and went back to the water."

Upon spotting the croc, Ms Wickham whipped out her phone and started filming as it made multiple turns in the water before it started heading towards the beach.

Ms Wickham said it would have been at least a couple of metres long but was hard to tell as she could only see ripples in the water.

Living in the Whitsundays for 18 years, the sighting was a first for Ms Wickham but it wasn't a complete surprise.

"I think people have always known (crocodiles) have been out there," she said.

"There's always been plenty of rumours they're around."
