Debbie not enough to stop a sweet conference

BOWEN will be inundated with sweetness from Tuesday as the 11th Australian Mango Conference kicks off for four days.

From growers, to wholesalers, retailers and transporters, the conference from May 2-5 is intended to gather representatives from all sectors of the industry.

One of the organisers, Total Industries development manager Trevor Dunmall, said the event was almost postponed because of Cyclone Debbie, but growers in the region wanted to progress with the original date.

He said this was despite some growers taking severe losses in both crops and machinery.

The conference is held every two years and the last time it was close by was in 2005 when Townsville played host.

Registrations and a conference programme can be found at industry.mangoes.net.au.
