Estimated start date for region's next solar farm
APA Group is progressing federal environmental approvals for the 150-240MW Beelbee Solar Farm, 42km west of Dalby.
Documents lodged with the Federal Government suggest APA Group is working toward an estimated start date of June this year.
The company said between 524,000 and 816,000 solar panels would be needed for the project, covering 360 ha.
Construction is expected to bring 450 jobs when works start, with six full-time operation staff once complete.
The Federal Government has referred the project for public comment under the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act.
The battery storage-ready solar farm was approved by Western Downs Regional Council in September last year, and the project, if it gains the necessary approvals, will complement APA Group's neighbouring Darling Downs Solar Farm at Kogan, which is currently under construction.
According to Western Downs Regional Council, the Beelbee Solar Farm project will feed between 150MW and 240MW into the national electricity grid and has the potential for up to 100MWh of battery storage.
The farm's energy generation capacity will depend on the selection of either fixed or tracking solar panels, and final design configuration.
The public have until March 14 to comment on the referral.
