Ferry and cruise operations moving to Port of Airlie

CRUISE Whitsundays administration staff started the move to their new maritime terminal at Port of Airlie today, ahead of reservations and all boating operations moving next Friday night, September 5.

Chief Executive Officer Nick Hortle said the new maritime terminal would set a new standard for the tourist experience in Airlie Beach.

"Now that we have started our move, the excitement is really building for the boats to begin operating out of Port of Airlie next Saturday the 6th," Mr Hortle said.

"We are confident that overall locals will be truly impressed with the new terminal, and hopefully we won't have to ask, but just in case we do, we hope our guests can have a bit of patience with us as we iron out any issues during the move," he said.

"As with any major change to a company's operations, there have been plenty of questions about what will happen from September 6.

"We have tried to make it as simple as possible for people - for every departure and arrival simply put 'Port of Airlie' in place of 'Abell Point Marina'. Shute Harbour remains as is. We have developed a Frequently Asked Questions page on our website to assist, and our Reservations team is available from 6am-8pm on the phone if you need more information."

Some of those Frequently Asked Questions include:

What will happen to

Shute Harbour?

Cruise Whitsundays will always continue operating services from Shute Harbour. To make things as easy as possible, the Shute Harbour timetable has not changed at all. The only change is replacing any Abell Point Marina arrivals or departures with Port of Airlie.

How do I/my guests/my visiting family and friends get to Port of Airlie?

Walk - The Port of Airlie is easy walking distance from most hotels and accommodation in Airlie Beach's town centre.

Drive - There is a brand new 170 space car park at our new Maritime Terminal at Port of Airlie. Bus - The new Cruise Whitsundays Maritime Terminal is right next to the bus terminal. Coach transfers will continue from most Airlie Beach accommodation (guests are advised to confirm the pick-up time as this is likely to have changed).

Taxi - Taxis can pick up/drop off right at the door of the maritime terminal.

Bus - Cruise Whitsundays will have a free shuttle bus running between Abell Point Marina and Port of Airlie in the first couple of weeks after the move, just in case guests arrive at the wrong place.

Do I need to re-book?

No. If you already have a booking after September 5 it still stands. We advise that you ring Reservations 24 hours prior to travel to confirm all your travel arrangements.

Will the prices go up?

No. Prices will remain the same.
