Great Whitsunday Trail is near
TRAIL RUNNING: On Sunday, September 11 Airlie Beach will be a magnet for approximately 150 experienced trail runners who will be challenging Run the Great Whitsunday Trail.
The biggest challenge this year will be between our event ambassador Brendan Davies from NSW and last year's winner of the 28.7 event, Sam Stedman from Townsville.
Brendan will be captaining the Australian team to the 100km World Championships to be held in December in Spain.
Brendan has achieved the rare feat of representing Australia in 50km and 100km road running, trail and mountain running at World Championship level and continues to participate in events ranging from 5km races through to ultra distance events at an elite level.
Brendan is currently the AURA Australian Male ultra runner of the year.
"With my wife Nadine, I am looking forward to coming to Airlie Beach to experience the unique and pristine environments of the Whitsundays and the Conway National Park. I feel fortunate to be able to share my coaching expertise with potential competitors in the lead-up through my training programs. I am of course excited to be participating in the first 'Run the Great Whitsunday Trail Ultra' race!" he said.
This event has a limited number of runners in each event and runners have a limited time to complete the distance. So pre-event training on trails is a must.
"If you are considering a late entry, contact Whitsunday Running Club via email or Facebook to join in with the event training," event organiser Wendy Downes said. See www.runwhitsundays.com.au for more information.
