‘Identical’: Aldi dupe of $1k item
Aldi has announced its new Special Buys and one item on the list has got everyone talking.
The German supermarket has an eco-friendly Heat Pump Dryer made by Stirling for $599, which unlike a traditional dryer recycles the air it uses, making it more energy efficient and cheaper to run.
Eagle-eyed bargain hunters have pointed out that similar heat pump dryers - which work by blasting hot air onto the wet items and then extracting moisture through an evaporator - from other brands costs as much as $2000.
Aldi's own promotional video for the home appliance declares the deal is a steal compared to competitors too, stating they usually cost $1000 and showing money tumbling around inside the dryer's drum to prove its point.
"You'll save cash with every cycle and an average of 50 per cent cheaper to run than a traditional dryer," the voiceover declares.

Understandably, fans on an Aldi Facebook group are very excited about the deal, declaring they will be lining up next weekend to try to snag one.
"I need this! We live in the Macedon Ranges and have four kids. Socks and undies always go in the dryer," one mum wrote.
"It's so affordable for a heat pump clothes dryer," another declared.
One said the product - which can hold 7kg of laundry and has a six-star energy rating - was "the best" price while others who already have heat pump dryers at home raved about them too.
"I have a heat pump dryer and they are good. They do take a little longer to dry but it uses far less power," one said.
Another said the model "looks identical" to the Esatto heat pump dryer which is owned by the same company that also makes Stirling products, the Residentia Groupl.
Esatto's heat pump dryer retails between $800 and $900 - making the Aldi Stirling version at least $200 cheaper.
"I have one; cracking value for money (I'm sure the Miele, AEG etc are better but I couldn't stretch to their price)," he said.
Last year, the same appliance cost $579 and caused a frenzy among shoppers.
The dryer comes with a three-year-warranty. If you're looking to buy one, is worth noting the dimensions - 84cm high, 59cm wide and 62cm deep. It's also heavy at 54kg so take a trolley with you.
Aldi's website states that as well as saving owners money, the recycled air process is "gentler on clothes". There are also 16 different drying programs, including jeans, sports, delicates and baby care as well as an "anti-crease" function that activates at the end of the cycle to remove wrinkles from clothes using cold air.
The dryer is one of many laundry appliances on offer that day including a garment steamer, for $34.99 and a 7.5kg front load washing machine for $379.
