Johnny Depp: Wife a no-show at court as case adjourned

UPDATE 11.30AM: Actress Amber Heard did not appear in a Southport court this morning after allegedly illegally bringing her two dogs into Australia.

The case has been adjourned until November 2.

FRIDAY: THE actress wife of Hollywood superstar Johnny Depp is unlikely to appear in a Gold Coast court on Monday to face charges over the alleged illegal importation of the couple's two dogs in May.

Amber Heard sparked an international imbroglio this year, when she allegedly smuggled Yorkshire terriers Pistol and Boo into Australia when she arrived in Brisbane with Mr Depp by private jet and failed to declare them to customs officials.

The presence of the two tiny quarantine fugitives on the Gold Coast sparked some tough talk from Australian Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce, who gave the superstar couple a 50 hour deadline to get the tiny terriers out of the country of face having them euthanised.

Mr Depp, who was in Queensland filming the latest instalment of his hugely successful Pirates of the Carribbean franchise, chartered a private jet to return the pooches to the United States.

In July, the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions issued Ms Heard with a summons to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on two charges of illegal importation of an animal and one count of falsifying a document.
