New details emerge about two-vehicle crash in Airlie Beach

NEW details have emerged about a two-vehicle crash in Airlie Beach yesterday afternoon.

The crash happened on Shute Harbour Rd near the NightOwl convenience store, making in the second incident on that bend in just over a month.

A spokesman from Whitsunday Police said the drivers involved in the crash were a 63-year-old female and a 52-year-old female.

Neither drivers had any passengers in the car at the time of the crash.

A spokesman from Queensland Police Services yesterday said the cause of the crash may have been a medical episode.

However, the spokesman from Whitsunday Police said the crash is still under investigation.

"That has been mooted by one of the drivers but we can't say that that is what happened at this stage," he said.

Queensland Ambulance Services reported that two patients were assessed at the scene.

A spokeswoman said one patient declined transport to hospital while another was transported to Proserpine Hospital in a stable condition.

However, Whitsunday Police said both drivers were taken to hospital for assessment.

A spokeswoman from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said yesterday that both vehicles were off the road when they arrived.

She said the occupants of the vehicles were not entrapped.

The QFES spokeswoman said "one of the vehicles was removed and made drivable."

The other vehicle had mounted the footpath near the NightOwl convenience store.
