POLL: Which candidate do you plan to vote for?

D DAY is approaching.

In 37 days the nation will go to the polls and cast their votes.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison this morning put an end to speculation and announced the election would be held on May 18.

ScoMo broke with tradition calling the election today, as they are normally called on a Sunday.

Political campaigning is already well under way with placards and bill boards popping up around town. But this will go into overdrive with candidates taking to the streets.

The Daily Mercury is running a poll to test the support for Capricornia and Dawson candidates in the early stages of the election campaign to compare to another poll closer to the election date.

The Capricornia electorate stretches from Ooralea to Yepoon and west into the Bowen Basin. It contains 98,190 voters across an area of 91,049 sq km.

The Dawson electorate covers the coastal strip including Ayr, Bowen, Mackay, Proserpine and some south-eastern suburbs of Townsville. The electorate includes 103,665 voters in a 14, 945 sq km area.
