Here's what was making news in the Proserpine Guardian on March 26, 1981:
Myrtle Creek bridge
Plans for a bridge on Shute Harbour Rd had been financed.
Work was expected to be completed by the end of 1982.
Erosion along the O'Connell River
Every flood causes a widening of the channel taking away the farmland.
Worst affected were the Ruge, Magee, Vickers and Thomas properties.
Obituaries
Ottavia (Tup) Tibaldi, whose family owned a farm at Foxdale, died.
A guard of honour was formed by members of the Sacred Heart Sodality, of which Tup was a member.

Coral Sea Resort opens
This beautiful original 1.75 acre site was transformed to contain the resort, which included the first swimming pool on the coast open to the public.
The total cost was $2 million and 250 cubic metres of concrete.

Sewerage connection at Cannonvale
While welcoming this, many residents were concerned at the condition the gardens had been left in.
