'Shroom brew a hit with coffee-holics

A STRANGE brew filled with fungi has prompted Coast's coffee-holics to "chai” something new.

Forest Glen's Kunara Organic Cafe is encouraging customers to sprinkle a little bit of magic into their drinks for an immune boost.

The Mason's Mushrooms elixir comes blended with eight medicinal mushrooms, including reishi, chaga, shiitake and lions mane, chosen for the way they target gut health.

Barista Kiri Richardson said customers had been going crazy for the 'shroom brew.

"We've just changed over to keeping the larger jar in the cafe instead of the smaller one because it's been so popular,” Mrs Richardson said.

She said demand for the vegan, gluten and sugar free blend was indicative of the latest health craze on the Coast.

"They say our guts are our second brain. If you get it right, the rest of your body follows.

"This is the key to good gut health which people are so focused on at the moment because it's important.

"It's really beneficial for your nervous system, immunity and hormones too.”

The powder packs a punch of flavour, Mrs Richardson said, perfect for every meal from bone broth to a morning smoothie.

"It gives a really meaty and rich finish, but is great in coffee and tea too,” she said.

"Just give things a try, because you never know what wonderful things you will like and really benefit you as well.”
