Smooth transition to new ferry terminal
CRUISE Whitsundays CEO Nick Hortle says the transition to the new maritime terminal at Port of Airlie has been a smooth one this week.
The company started operating from the new terminal last Saturday, September 6, with Port of Airlie now replacing all former Abell Point Marina arrivals and departures.
Services to and from Shute Harbour have stayed the same.
Mr Hortle said as far as he was aware, there had been no incidences of people missing their boats.
"We've been running a courtesy bus just in case people have gone to the wrong place but thankfully the numbers on that have been very small," he said.
Mr Hortle said judging by the number of cars parked in the car park, "it looks like the community are supporting this".
"We've had a lot of positive feedback from the regular travellers who've been going out of their way to congratulate Cruise Whitsundays on the new facility," he said.
"And for the new travellers - well they don't really have a point of reference but they seem as happy and as jolly as ever - but they've got good reason to be."
The new terminal will be officially opened at a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony presided over by Whitsunday mayor Jennifer Whitney, next Friday, September 19.
