Killed 'by a ship': Gladstone's drowning shame

MORE deaths occurred in Gladstone waters last year than any other region in Queensland, according to a Transport and Main Roads report released this month.

Of the seven marine fatalities in Queensland, four were in the Gladstone region.

One involved a paddle boat, one a jet ski, another a power boat and another a sail boat.

Two incidents involved people overboard, one was a swamping and the other a person struck by a ship.

The Gladstone maritime region includes 1868km of coastline from Double Island Point to St Lawrence, 1342km of island coastline and 26,190km of inland waterways.
