Stud farmers' shocking find after electrical storm
A STUD farming family in Thora is counting the cost after the electrical storm which swept across the Coffs Coast early on Sunday evening.
Shannon Scott from the stud beef cattle enterprise, Sowintoo Charolais, was inside the house with her husband and children when lightning struck incredibly close to their home.
The entire mob of bulls had taken shelter under a large fig tree about 60-70 metres from the Scott's home when the family heard almighty popping sounds and a sharp, intense light appeared.
The family thought lightning had struck directly above the home but after hearing the herd of stud bulls bellowing, Shannon investigated outside.
She found two of the farm's stud Charolais bulls had died suddenly.
Singe lines were evident in both of the bulls in their front and hind legs.
Mrs Scott was saddened at the loss of the valuable bulls but relieved her family was safe.
"An event like this just reinforces how important storm safety is," Mrs Scott said.
"It could have so easily been one of us or the children out there."
