T-Birds put an end to unbeaten Vixens run

FORMER Liz Ellis Diamond winner Renae Hallinan celebrated her 100th trans-Tasman netball championship game in style, helping the Adelaide Thunderbirds end the Melbourne Vixens' unbeaten run with a 47-45 home-court victory.

The result was a big

turnaround for the T-Birds who lost to the defending champions by nine goals when they clashed in

Melbourne just two weeks ago.

The Thunderbirds looked headed for a relatively comfortable victory when they led by six goals mid-way through the final quarter, but the rare sight of seeing captain Biance Chatfield head to the bench, combined with the re-introduction of shooter Kathryn Bailey, sparked the visitors into action.

The Vixens reduced the gap to a single goal, but were unable to take the points.

Carla Borrego returned to her best for the Thunderbirds, finishing with a game-high 24 goals, while Bailey landed 23 for the Vixens.

Round four finishes tonight with another blockbuster between the NSW Swifts and West Coast Fever in Sydney, while the Northern Mystics host the Central Pulse in Auckland.

The Fever is the only unbeaten team in the competition, winning its opening three games for the first time.

Its record against the Swifts in Sydney doesn't inspire much confidence, however, the last win coming back in 2009.

The clash between star West Coast shooter Caitlin Bassett and Swifts defender and Australian teammate Sharni Layton should be a highlight.
