Telco flicks switch on 5G in Airlie Beach

READY your Netflix, bingeing the latest series just got a whole lot faster for Airlie Beach residents after the town’s first Telstra 5G base station was switched on.

The 5G coverage will reach areas of Jubilee Pocket and Mandalay as well as southern areas of Airlie Beach.

Telstra Regional general manager Rachel Cliffe said the telco was committed to bringing 5G to more areas of regional Queensland following other nearby rollouts in Mackay and Townsville.

“It’s really exciting that Airlie Beach is among the leading regional locations across the country to now have access to 5G connectivity,” she said

“We’ve made a commitment to roll out Telstra’s 5G network to more areas across regional Australia and that’s exactly what we’re delivering in Airlie Beach.

“Telstra has always been dedicated to connecting people in regional Australia and ensuring they are among the first to experience the latest mobile technology.

“Telstra has been leading the way in pioneering 5G technology with a number of world and Australian firsts – and making 5G technology available to Australian consumers.

“Now with the first 5G site on air, customers in Airlie Beach have a chance to be part of that cutting edge.”

As Telstra continues its 5G rollout in Airlie Beach, the upgrades will also improve capacity and speeds for Telstra’s existing 4G customers.

Further rollouts and upgrades will occur in the coming months to expand Telstra 5G in the area.

Telstra’s 5G roll out now stretches to more than 60 cities across the country, with 2000 5G sites now on-air across Australia.
