We've taken a look at each player and how they've rated over the pre-season, including their form during the NRL Nines and trial matches.

Here's the predicted starting side for Friday's game:

1. Jack Bird

PRE-SEASON RATING: 8

Clinched fullback spot with great training in pre-season. Sharp against the Titans but left the field early with a concussion.

2. Corey Oates

RATING: 5

Played just the one trial after succumbing to a leg infection and has had a disrupted summer. Xavier Coates is pushing hard to secure a wing spot and could put some pressure on Oates.

3. Darius Boyd

RATING: 5

Disappointing in the final trial against the Titans and needs to watch his back with the likes of Herbie Farnworth breathing down his neck for a centre position.

4. Kotoni Staggs

RATING: 7

Came back early from a broken toe for the NRL Nines and looked slick in the Perth tournament. He was good in the trials against the Cowboys and the Titans.

Jesse Arthars impressed over the pre-season and has earned himself a Round 1 spot.

5. Jesse Arthars

RATING: 8

An outstanding pre-season has led to the 21-year-old clinching a Round 1 club debut. He scored two tries against the Cowboys and looked classy when they played the Titans. Could be one of the buys of the season.

6. Anthony Milford

RATING: 7.5

Some nice touches in the NRL Nines, only to then injure his hamstring. He's dropped a few kilos after taking up boxing during the off-season and definitely looks fitter. Was outstanding against the Cowboys and was their best player up in Cairns. Showed he is still a natural playmaker after setting up a nice try the following week when they played the Titans.

7. Brodie Croft

RATING: 7

Looked good at the Nines and was solid in both trials against the Titans and Cowboys. He was vocal in all games and confident marshalling the attack.

Tully product Tom Flegler continues his rampaging form to land a Round 1 spot.
Tully product Tom Flegler continues his rampaging form to land a Round 1 spot.

8. Tom Flegler

RATING: 7

Has wrapped up a starting spot for Round 1 with a promising summer. Ran with aggression in the Nines and backed it up with a try against the Titans.

9. Jake Turpin

RATING: 6.5

Solid without being spectacular. Got through a mountain of work against the Titans and was always probing during the Nines. Now the first choice hooker and rightly so.

10. Payne Haas

RATING: 7

Disappointing at the Nines but hit back with ferocious charges in the following two trials. Ran for 151m by half time in their match against the Titans. A freak of a talent.

11. Alex Glenn

RATING: 3

Barely sighted in the pre-season due to an ongoing hamstring injury. It's a worrying sign for the new club captain. He was pulled out just days ahead of the Nines with injury then tweaked his hammy against the Cowboys in the opening 14 minutes. Alarm bells are ringing.

12. David Fifita

RATING: 5

Needs to lift his game. Barely fired a shot at the Nines and lacked impact in both trials. A poor defensive miss allowed Jai Arrow to score.

13. Pat Carrigan

RATING: 7

Career highlight captaining the Broncos in their Titans trial. Made a whopping 36 tackles and 165m at Redcliffe to show he is the new Corey Parker. Sealed the No. 13 jumper and is a future skipper.

HOW THE OTHERS FARED

Tevita Pangai Jr has been good over the pre-season without being magnificent.

Tevita Pangai Jr

RATING: 6

Honest without being magnificent. Made some strong charges against the Cowboys and Titans but a few defensive lapses hurt him. Valuable asset given he can play middle or edge.

Matt Lodge

RATING: 2

Injured ACL in pre-season and could miss the first two months of the NRL, if not the entire season. Broncos have their fingers crossed he will recover.

Jamayne Isaako

RATING: 4

Has lost his way. He had the fullback spot in his grasp but a dismal Nines opened the door for Jack Bird. Has struggled to impose himself in games and needs to improve positional play.

Joe Ofahengaue

RATING: 1

Needs to pull his finger out if he wants a career at the Broncos. Third law breaking offence in the pre-season and is suspended for first two NRL games.

Jamil Hopoate

RATING: 6.5

Has done everything right over summer. Nothing superb but has held his own. Good work ethic and has clinched his NRL debut for Round 1.

Tesi Niu

RATING: 6.5

Will be the club's next fullback superstar. A constant danger at the Nines with his flashy footwork and speed. Still only 18 and Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold is a huge fan. Will be blooded this season after June 30.

Herbie Farnworth

RATING: 7

A very good summer. One of Brisbane's best at the Nines and showed blinding speed against the Cowboys and Titans. Confident and always involved. Looks the goods.

Xavier Coates cost himself a Round 1 spot after a few errors during the trials but has a promising future ahead of him.

Xavier Coates

RATING: 5

Cost himself a right wing spot for Round 1 with a mixed pre-season. Suffered from a bad error spilling a bomb against the Cowboys and then leaked a try two minutes later. He was better against the Titans with a superb put down for a try. Only 18 and has a huge future.

Jordan Riki

RATING: 4

Was a chance for a Round 1 debut but blew it with some poor marker defence against the Titans. Played for the Maori All Stars and still has so much to learn. Promising talent.

Ethan Bullemor

RATING: 6

Looks a no-nonsense type who gets the job done. Saw plenty of action in the trials and Nines and will only get better as a young prop.

Tom Dearden

RATING: 6

A serviceable pre-season from the boom halfback. Struggled in trial against North Queensland but did well covering for Milford at the Nines when he got injured. A handy back-up for Croft this season.
