Toddler critical after being 'dragged five metres' by car

A YOUNG child is in a critical condition after being hit by a car during a shock accident on the Gold Coast this morning.

The boy, 2, was struck while in the driveway of an Elevation Dr home at Wongawallan, in the city's northwest.

Queensland Ambulance Service Acting Operation Supervisor Stephen Strom said the car had been reversing at the time.

"The two-year-old was struck and dragged approximately five metres," he said.

"He's sustained some injuries to his face, fractures to his femur and clavicle."

The toddler was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital under ambulance lights and sirens in a critical but stable condition.

Paramedics and police were called to the scene about 6.30am following reports of a pedestrian and vehicle accident.

A police spokeswoman said the boy was conscious and breathing as he was treated at the scene by the specialist High Acuity Response Unit and critical care paramedics.

The toddler was the only one injured, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed.
