Toowoomba reacts with memes to historic Trump election
SOMETIMES humour is the best medicine.
Toowoomba residents have reacted with shock and joy to the news that Donald Trump won the United States election.
About 3pm yesterday it became clear that Trump would beat his rival Hillary Clinton.
The reaction to his stunning upset in Toowoomba was similar to that in the US, it split us right down the middle.
As is becoming more common these days, it wasn't long before the memes started flowing.
Some enthusiastically supported Trump, with Wesley Nunyas writing in a way that harkened to the proudly politically-incorrect Trump: "Absolutely brilliant. About time someone with balls to get s**t done. We need someone like that in Australia instead of the b*****s we have running this country."
Likewise Peter Solomon showed he was in the #MAGA camp writing: "The people have spoken - despite the media campaign against him and the negative press. Suck it up lefties."
Are you happy Donald Trump won?
This poll ended on 10 December 2016.
This is not a scientific poll. The results reflect only the opinions of those who chose to participate.
Personal attacks were rife on both sides, with Trump referring to Clinton as "crooked" and Daryl Halliday continued in that vein: "Would rather see Trump president than that witch Clinton."
Both others expressed their shock at the Trump's win.
Geoff Hitchener writing: "This is the most tragic thing to happen in world history since Hitler got elected."
Rosemary Kalipatama was shocked writing: "OMG! What's the world is going or coming to. It shows money does talk."
Melanie Horrocks wrote: "I'm an Aussie and am mortified. I feel very worried the USA."
Vicki Fox wrote of her concern for the future: "I think the world had better watch out trouble is brewing."
Vicki Lynette Trunks wrote: "I am scared."
Others echoed a common refrain in the US to the unpopular candidates, Leonie Cook wrote: "Both are essentially oxygen thieves and neither deserve to be elected."
The reaction across the country was also mixed.
Right wing politicians like Pauline Hanson were quick to celebrate his win.
"I'm so excited that Donald Trump looks like he's just over the line, and I'm so happy about it.
"This is putting out a clear message to everyone around the world that people power is now happening."
