Veteran Bronco still has nerves ahead of Knights clash

DAVID Stagg is a Broncos veteran in his 13th season. But even he will be as nervous as a 'Baby Bronco' again tonight - after he first played that role as a centre in 2003.

Stagg, 31, will be the elder statesman of the Brisbane side when it heads to Newcastle's Hunter Stadium, minus six Origin players.

Named in the second row, it will be his first NRL match since round 16 last year.

Stagg's first time as a Baby Bronco came almost 12 years ago in his debut match. That night 10 State of Origin players were missing from his team against the Bulldogs, as it was humbled 40-4 in Brisbane.

"I'll be a little bit nervous I imagine - it's been a while," Stagg (pictured) said.

"I'll just stick to the same old David I guess, and just do my job."

Meanwhile, Knights winger James McManus said the confidence had returned to his team after it snapped a five-game losing streak against the Tigers last week.
